Weeden
Looking for information on Alfred Penn WEEDEN, his wife Eleanor LUCAS WEEDEN, daughter Annake WEEDEN, and his grandson, Alexander O. DONASON. Alfred Penn Weeden (b. ca 1782) is found in the 1840 Knox County, IL Census (Haw Creak Township). Alfred migrated to the area some time around 1839 from Belmont County, OH. Alfred is said to have died in Knox County on Jan. 25, 1847. After the death of Alfred, his wife Eleanor moved back to Ohio. Alfred's daughter, Annake, married George W. Simkins on Dec. 12, 1841. I would guess Annake was born some time around 1823. Alfred's grandson, Alexander O. Donason was born on Oct. 10, 1834. I assume his mother was Kirdelia (Cordella) Weeden. Alexander moved to Knox County with his grandparents and at the age of 12 (coincides with Alfred's death) engaged to work by the month for Benona SIMPKINS for seven years. Alexander married Ann M. BARBERO on Mar. 11, 1855. Alexander's children are: Nathan, Jack (m. Minnie SYLVESTER), Calista G. (m. Samuel LOVE), Charles (m. Ada SIMPKINS), Fred, Frank and Katie.Alexander served his township as Supervisor and held several minor offices. Are George W. Simkins, Benona Simpkins and Ada Simpkins related? (9-98)

David B. Berry
Berry
I'm seeking information about ISAIAH BERRY who is listed in the Land Sale records as having purchased 40 acres of land (Federal Sale) in Knox County, 12/11/1855, Sec. 4, T12N, R3E. I am hoping for a connection between this ISAIAH BERRY and GEORGE W. BERRY who lived in Washington Twp, Warren County 1860's-1880's.

GEORGE W. BERRY, wife CATHERINE and "son" WILLIAM SANFORD BERRY are listed on page 30, 1870 Census of Monmouth Twp exclusive of City of Monmouth, Warren Co. They are also listed on page 6, 1880 Census of Monmouth Twp exclusive of City of Monmouth, Warren Co., as J.W.. Berry, age 48, farmer, b. Kentucky...wife Catherine, age 38, keeps house, b. Ohio...son William, age 13, at school, b. Indiana.

GEORGE W. BERRY was not WILLIAM S. BERRY's real father. William's real parents were ISAIAH BERRY, b.abt. 1820 in Kentucky and SUSAN D. BURRESS, b.abt 1834-35 in Kentucky, married June 2, 1853 Washington Twp., Daviess County, Indiana. ISAIAH BERRY and SUSAN BURRESS BERRY had at least 3 children: daughter SARAH, b.abt 1857, IN, daughter ALICE b.abt 1859, IN, and WILLIAM S. BERRY, b. Dec. 1866, Washington Twp, Daviess County, IN.

ISAIAH BERRY died of TB just prior to WILLIAM's birth and mother SUSAN D. BURRESS BERRY died of TB Dec. 1866/Jan 1867 right after WILLIAM's birth. Family oral history says the girls, SARAH and ALICE, died of TB prior to 1866 and a pipe smoking grandmother from Kentucky took infant WILLIAM S. BERRY by wagon to Monmouth, Illinois area farm of ISAIAH's childless brother GEORGE W. BERRY(?) and wife. (11-98)
