The Knox County Genealogical Society was formed in 1971 for the purpose of locating and making available information of a historic and genealogical nature. The Society encourages the individual genealogical research of its members and other individuals.
The research collection of the Society is presently housed at the Galesburg Public Library, 40 East Simmons Street, Galesburg, IL 61401. This collection includes genealogies, census records, periodicals and other resource material.
The Knox County Genealogy Society has published extensive material pertaining to Galesburg and Knox County. All of its publications are now available for purchase directly from the Society by contacting them at their mailing address below. Publications will continue to be available for purchase face-to-face at the regular monthly Society meetings and periodic workshops.
A Society "genie" is at the Galesburg Public Library to help beginners and introduce others to the collection every Wednesday from 1:00 pm. to 4:00 pm. No appointment is necessary.
Research help and study groups are available to aid and assist members. A Genealogy Committee is able to do basic local research for out-of-town members for a small fee.
The research fee is $6.00 per hour for members and $12.50 per hour for non-members. The one hour fee and a self-addressed, stamped envelope must accompany the request. Additional charges are $1 per page for a photocopy of printed material and $1 per page for newspaper microfilm copies.
Microfilm of available newspapers at the Galesburg Public Library can be searched for an obituary. When sending a request to the Society, please remember to state your requests as simply as possible with exact names, time periods and general locations, if known. A list of researchers will be provided upon request for further searches in the library and/or the Knox County Courthouse.
Please be aware that our research volunteers are just that..........Volunteers. They are not available full time. Please be patient!
