Biography - Edwin J. Calkins
EDWIN J. CALKINS. The son of Elijah and Philena (Colelman) Calkins, he
was born 23 Oct 1811 in Hillsdale, Columbia Co, NY. He learned the carpenter
trade in his youth and followed the business until 1837 when he quit it and
went to farming. He settled in Sparta Twp. in 1837, where he has since
resided. He was united in marriage with Harriet Alvira Park in 1836, and has
three sons and two daughters. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal
Church and is one of its Trustees. He is a Republican. Post Office, Galena.
